Wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address 0x423bba (thread 0018), starting debugger. Here is the message generated by the fatal error I get when trying to start the game without virtual desktop (the error happens right when the game would normally enter the splash screen, right after overlaying the Millennium Falcon on the desktop.)įixme:system:SystemParametersInfoW Unimplemented action: 94 (SPI_GETMOUSETRAILS)įixme:win:WIN_CreateWindowEx Parent is HWND_MESSAGE The way I've been coping is to not use the mouse whenever possible, but that really interferes with my ability to play well.Īs for the mouse cursor not displaying, that was the first thing I fixed after installing the game :) So basically, anytime the mouse goes to the edge of the screen, I lose control and get disoriented. What's actually happening is that as soon as the mouse leaves the window (the "allow programs to confine mouse" option didn't seem to work) the game interprets any mouse movement to mean "spin wildly in the direction that the mouse went off of the screen."

The "funky things" with the mouse aren't just a lack of maneuverability that is just a part of the game and I could deal with that. When you try running the game without that option, what errors are produced in the terminal?įirst of all, thanks for addressing my problem so thoroughly based on the limited information I gave. Unless you disable the "Emulate virtual desktop" option, the game will never run in full screen anyway, it will always be in a Wine window. There is a fan-made hack that will expand the game's resolutions to wide screen format, but I don't know if it will work with Wine: It cannot do wide screen resolutions like the default resolution of your monitor. Also, you can use the keyboard functions to control your character's movement, which practically eliminates the mouse problem.Īs for the screen resolution, KotOR's maximum resolution is 1600x1200, 4:3 aspect ratio. It still won't get you a full 360 degree movement range, but it will be much better than the default. I worked around it a bit by increasing the mouse sensitivity in the game's settings. It apparently has something to do with a fault in Wine's implementation of DirectInput that has not been corrected (yet). If the mouse problem you are describing is a limited rotation range, then there is nothing you can do about it, there are several games that have problem with that.
